H.L. We spent this year's summer holiday in Iceland and so I collected some indie, rock, pop and soft metal albums for the three week round trip. Anette Olzon was the singer on my favourite Nightwish album "Dark Passion Play", so I gave her latest solo album a chance. It is definitely more metal than her first one "Shine" and contains several catchy and dynamic songs like "Sick of You", "I need to stay", "Strong", "Catcher of my Dreams" or "Hear the Roar" which all entered our Holiday Playlist. Favorite track: Catcher of My Dreams.

Anders Thunell This is a hidden gem. Nightwish gives us great singers that are shamelessly dismissed and then they prove to the world that they can stand on their own. This album is full of fight and will to live. I recommend Strong to anybody with a beating heart and a will to live. Favorite track: Strong.

Current The Dark Element (and ex-Nightwish) vocalist Anette Olzon is set to release her new solo album, "Strong" via Frontiers Music Srl. This will be Anette's second solo album, following 2014's "Shine," and offers a harder, faster musical offering compared to the debut. More importantly, "Strong" stakes a claim for Anette’s well-deserved standing as one of the world's top female metal vocalists.

The music for "Strong" was written and composed together with acclaimed Swedish guitarist and producer Magnus Karlsson. Together, Anette and Magnus managed to create an outstanding collection of songs which showcase Anette’s enormous vocal range alongside Karlsson’s incendiary riffs. The songs are heavy, but still quite melodic and contemporary in their approach to the genre style. Additionally, "Strong" is mixed by Jacob Hansen (Pretty Maids, Volbeat, The Dark Element, etc.).

All in all, “Strong” is an album that masters the borders between heaviness and hookiness, all while showing an artist who doesn't rest on her laurels, but heads boldly into the future.

The title track is similar to the symphonic metal I’ve come to appreciate in the BC app suggestions. I can’t say I like the whole album but it’s anyway a very pleasant listen and I’m also looking forward to more work from the band. sachavonkarl74

#3 2023: "XANDRIA reborn", concerning the line-up. In terms of music it is what you expect from one of the leading symphonic metal bands. 75 minutes(!) of bombastic, dramatic, well arranged and varied female fronted metal. Each song on this long player is catchy, full of pathos and a hit, Also the new singer makes a great job and brings soul into the heavy soundscapes. A must have release for fans of this genre. Not original, but better than all Nightwash releases since "Dark Passion Play"! H.L.
